Programs & Services

The SPRA Fitness Division approves a variety of courses offered by outside agencies. These courses provide knowledge and instructional techniques to keep SPRA fitness leaders up to date with trends and information relevant to the Fitness Industry in Canada. The courses posted below are approved by the SPRA Fitness Division for Continuing Education Credits (CECs) towards your recertification.

All SPRA Fitness Leaders must submit 12 CECs every 2 years as part of the recertification process.

Click here for a chart that depicts how CEC applications are assessed. It includes a list of CEC categories and details and the corresponding number of CECs that are awarded for each.Individuals must complete a CEC Application Form in order to receive credits from SPRA for items listed below, with the exception of the annual SaskFit Conference or courses that have been assigned CECs below.

Applying for CECs

If you have attended a course not listed below and would like to know if it qualifies for CECs please fill out the CEC Application for Fitness Leaders Form.  Please remember that the SPRA Fitness Division does require proof of attendance on all courses put forward as CECs for recertification purposes.

If you are a course instructor and would like to know how many CECs your course is worth and have it posted here, please fill out the CEC Application for Instructors Form. Please return all forms to the SPRA office with the requested accompanying materials.

P90XLIVE is a total body, cardio and strength training class that uses free weights, resistance bands or just your own body weight.  It is pre-formatted workout that offers group strength in a group fitness setting.  Workouts can be modified for a wide range of fitness leavels and abilities.

Fitness Yoga Workshops

Integrating Deep Core Work into your Yoga Class
March 26, 2017
Time:  Sunday March 26, 2017  9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

This workshop will introduce the basics of core and back anatomy along with discussion of the importance of core strength in supporting a healthy low back and show you how to integrate the techniques into your yoga lesson plan.  We will practice accessing and strengthening our deep stabilizing muscles and apply that learning to help you build deep core work into a safe and enjoyable practice for your yogis.  Enjoy a fun, safe and non-judgmental learning environment with modifications for all levels of experience and ability.

How to Teach Chair Assisted Fitness Yoga  (Prequesite Fitness Yoga Certification)

Time:  Sunday   11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.  (7 hours - lunch on the mat)

If you would like to teach yoga to older adults or those who may require chair assistance but are not sure you feel well enough prepared to do so, this may be the right workshop for you.  We will work together to learn how to modify yoga poses with chair support and have plenty of opportunity to practice teaching what we learn in a safe, encouraging and non-judgmental environment.  The emphasis of this workshop is to help you broaden your teaching skills in a fun and practical way and to give you the confidence and knowledge to provide a service to those in your community who would benefit from Chair Assisted Yoga.

Yin Yoga Training

Yin Yoga is a practice which places healthy, gentle, regenerative stress on the connective tissues of the body.  Yoga postures that may feel challenging to maintain.  This calm, beneficial practice is a great counter training to more active styles of yoga, and helps to reduce aches, pains, and overall physical and mental tension and stress.
