The SPRA Fitness Division is represented on the National Fitness Leadership Alliance (NFLA).

The NFLA is a collective and collaborative partnership dedicated to developing, promoting and recognizing the use of national guidelines and standards for fitness leadership and certification thereby leading to improved quality and safety.

NFLA CANADA Positioning Statement
NFLA Canada's main focus is on the development and stewardship of national standards for fitness leader registration across Canada, and acting as an advocate for fitness leadership at the National level.  Our involvement with ICREPs will further these goals, providing international recognition for our Canadian fitness professionals, and allowing for the sharing of best practices internationally.

Our role as a register

The NFLA is recognized by the International Confederation of Registers for Exercise Professionals

ICREPs members operate in 4 continents, over seven countries, and collectively register over 60,000 individual exercise professionals. ICREPs has also produced a global matrix that maps each ICREPs member’s registration levels against the others, which provides a clear pathway for exercise professionals considering moving countries.

Our connection to ICREPs furthers our goals by providing international portability and recognition for Canadian exercise professionals and by allowing us to share best practices and information with international partners.

What We Do
The NFLA develops, promotes and implements national standards for the accreditation, training and registration of exercise professionals in Canada.

The NFLA:

  • Works collaboratively to develop and distribute resources for exercise professionals in Canada;
  • Is a national and international advocate for exercise professionals;
  • identifies and addresses issues of common concern.

Performance Standards
The National Fitness Leadership Alliance recently updated the Performance Standards for each of the module areas. SPRA will continue to implement these standards through the modules that we offer and ensure that fitness delivery meets the highest standards in the industry.
