The City of Regina is looking for a Program Coordinator - Parks. The Program Coordinator – Parks will be responsible for the development, co-ordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of recreation activities and public education relating to park horticulture and urban biodiversity and forestry conservation. Typical duties could include connecting with community organizations to build and strengthen partnerships, developing and delivering on program plans for community engagement, and prepare staff training and toolkits for program delivery.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Secures facility spaces as required and ensures the program space and equipment are safe.
  • Co-ordinates and prepares daily/weekly program and staff schedules.
  • Ensures the utilization of behaviour management techniques in the delivery of programs by program staff.
  • Determines the need for program supplies and equipment, maintains an inventory, and assists with purchasing and maintenance of same.
  • Evaluates programs, gathers statistics, and prepares evaluation reports.
  • Communicates and develops a good working relationship with clients, the public, staff, volunteers, and partner agencies.
  • Leads and participates in staff meetings.
  • Ensures Department and Corporate procedures and/or guidelines are adhered to.
  • Develops and monitors program budgets.
  • Assists with the recruitment, training, supervision and evaluation of program staff.
  • Prepares program resources as required.
  • Works with partner agencies for co-operative programming, special events, and facility concerns.
  • Performs other general administrative duties as assigned.
  • Follow all rules and regulations as set out in the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
  • Knowledge of a broad range of public education programs, concepts, principles, and trends relating to horticulture and urban forestry
  • Knowledge of contemporary behaviour management principles and techniques in program planning and delivery for various age groups.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service and demonstrated ability to effectively apply them.
  • Knowledge of current evaluation and reporting principles, practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of leisure and social needs of a variety of target groups and demonstrated ability to teach and coach others in the skills needed to perform in these activities.
  • Knowledge of the program planning cycle including needs assessment, program development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of the general rules and regulations of the Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Regina Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to plan, organize, co-ordinate, schedule, instruct, monitor, and evaluate skill development program activities for a variety of target groups.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, co-operative, safe atmosphere for participants.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision demonstrating sound leadership, problem solving, time management, enthusiasm, flexibility, responsibility, planning and decision making skills.
  • Ability to interact courteously, co-operatively, and tactfully with staff, clients, volunteers, community agencies and the public.
  • Ability to set achievable goals and outcomes for assigned programs.
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff.
  • Computer knowledge related to word processing, facility scheduling, program registration, spread sheets, graphic programs, and email.
  • Ability to effectively co-ordinate financial and other resources.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Two year post-secondary education in Horticultural, Arboriculture, Environmental or Biological sciences, Education, or related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the advocacy of, planning, delivery, and evaluation of specialized education and recreation activities relating to horticultural programs and urban forestry.

Added Requirements:
  • Must be available to work non-standard hours and weekends.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have the ability to travel within the city.
  • Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C.
  • Candidates should have an understanding of forestry and horticulture and an interest in community engagement and education.
  • Between 15 and 30 years of age when employment begins (inclusive)
  • A Canadian citizen, or permanent resident or a protected person as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
