Reporting to the Horticulture & Forestry Supervisor, the primary duties of this position are seasonal. During the spring and summer, the primary focus involves providing direction and supervision of staff engaged in the maintenance and care of Crescent Park. During the fall/winter, the position focuses on the maintenance of the City’s urban forest but also assists with other department related duties such as outdoor rink maintenance, clearing City pathways, assisting with burials and cemetery maintenance and other Park related tasks.

Duties:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance programs specific to Crescent Park which includes landscaping, horticulture, forestry and pest control
  • Maintain systematic, complete and accurate records and supporting documents of all activities related to the operation and maintenance of the Park
  • Assist in preparing budget information and monitor expenditures
  • Drive/operate/inspect and ensure proper maintenance of various vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to, mowers, bucket trucks, chipper, tractor/loader, backhoe, skid-steer, stump grinder, sprayer, fertilizers, chain saw, motorized pole saw and other associated equipment and hand tools
  • Perform and assist with tree maintenance and tree removal, cabling, bracing, and pruning using aerial device
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or Certificate from a recognized institution in landscaping, horticulture, or related field
  • Three (3) years’ experience in Parks maintenance including turf, flowers, trees and landscaping
  • Two (2) years’ supervisory experience showing an ability to supervise, organize and direct the activities of multiple employees at once
  • Experience operating and training staff on equipment and vehicles required for the delivery of programs and services in parks, green spaces and cemeteries
  • Familiarity with Windows based computer systems and ability to learn new software systems regarding work orders, requests for service, asset management, staff scheduling and payroll
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License
  • Ability to physically perform unassisted heavy lifting up to 50 lbs
  • There will be additional certifications to obtain upon hire
Wage: $27.42 per hour
