(Succession Position – Future Arena & Facilities Manager)
Ever dreamed of driving a Zamboni and leading the team that keeps a community running? Now’s your chance — plus a whole lot more.
As kids, we all imagined cruising across the ice like arena royalty… but the Town of Whitewood knows the arena doesn’t run on smooth ice alone. We’re looking for a Recreation Technician / Assistant Manager who’s ready to learn the ins and outs of our recreation operations, support staff, take charge when needed, and grow into the future leader of our facilities.
This role is perfect for someone who loves hands-on work, takes pride in a job well done, and is ready to step up as a reliable, respectful, accountable member of our team — with a clear path toward management.
What You’ll Be Doing
This job is more than driving the Zamboni (though yes, you’ll get to do that too). As the Recreation Technician / Assistant Manager, you will:
- Facility Operations — Daily upkeep and operation of recreation facilities
- Arena & Ice Maintenance — Ice prep, resurfacing, equipment operation
- Leadership Support — Act as second-in-command; step in when the Manager is away
- Team Direction — Provide guidance to seasonal and part-time staff
- Customer Service — Support user groups, respond to public inquiries
- Task Prioritization — Manage a busy, multipurpose environment with confidence
- Maintenance & Repairs — Assist with equipment operation, troubleshooting, and minor repairs
- Safety & Standards — Ensure safe, clean, well-maintained community spaces
What You Bring
- Minimum Grade 12 or GED
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- A positive attitude and pride in community spaces
- Accountability, reliability, and respect for coworkers and the public
- Willingness to learn, grow, and take on leadership responsibilities
- Experience in recreation, facility operations, or equipment use is an asset
- Supervisory or leadership experience is an asset (but not required)
What We Offer
- Competitive wages
- Full benefits package

- Training and mentorship to prepare you for future management
- A supportive team and a community that appreciates your work
