Spending time outdoors and being physically active is good for our health. Canadian research shows that physical activity can lower the risk of chronic disease, improve heart health, and support mental well-being. Time in nature can reduce stress, boost mood, and increase life satisfaction. Even short, regular visits to nearby parks and trails can make a big difference to your quality of life.
Spending time with others is also important for health and quality of life. Studies show that people who take part in community recreation and physical activity are more likely to feel supported, included, and socially connected. Strong social ties are linked to better mental health and help people cope during stressful times.
Feeling like you belong has a powerful impact on well-being. Canadian research shows that a sense of belonging is linked to better mental health, greater confidence, and lower levels of anxiety and depression. Parks and recreation help create this sense of belonging by providing welcoming, inclusive spaces where people feel valued and part of their communities.
