The Town of Davidson is seeking a Lead Hand to be responsible for the maintenance of all Town recreation facilities.  This includes the AGT Centre (indoor ice and curling arena), Panther Pool, sports fields and campground.  This position also assists the Public Works department in other areas during the summer months.  This is a full-time, permanent in-scope position reporting to the Director or Recreation and Culture.  


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • The ideal candidate will possess each of the following qualifications: 
  • *Arena Operator Level 1 and 2 
  • *Curling Ice Technician Certification  
  • *Pool Operator Level 1 
  • *Fireman Boiler Operator 
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent 
  • WHMIS
  • Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver’s license 
  • Standard First Aid, AED, and CPR is preferred
  • Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search is required
  • Previous experience working in municipal recreation or public works positions is an asset.


TYPICAL DUTIES

Winter months: 

AGT Centre

  • Responsible for ice making and ice resurfacing to accommodate various activities such as hockey, ringette, figure skating, public skating, and curling. 
  • Responsible for maintenance of all machinery including Zamboni, edger, scraper, and other required equipment.  
  • Responsible for maintenance of building systems including but not limited to boilers and refrigeration units.  
  • Responsible for maintaining daily records such as, but not limited to, boiler gauge readings, ice plant gauge readings, facility concerns, supplies needed, and other reports as directed by supervisor. 
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness standards throughout entire facility which includes hockey arena, curling rink, fitness centre, lobby, public washrooms, and in the off-season lounge and kitchen.  
  • Ensure immediate grounds surrounding the facility are well maintained (e.g. snow and ice cleared in the winter; weed/grass in the spring/summer). 
  • Monitor the actions of groups and individuals using the arena facilities.
  • Responsible for all custodial duties, general maintenance, and repair tasks being completed inside and outside the facility as required. 
  • Assists with the training and supervision of Rink Attendants.  


Summer months:    

Panther Pool

  • Assist the Pool Manager and Recreation Director to prepare the facility for opening which includes cleaning, filling and adding chemicals to the pool.
  • Assist the Pool Manager and Recreation Director to close the facility for the season which includes cleaning, draining and winterizing the pool.          
  • Completes basic repairs as required in the pool house, mechanical room and grounds.
  • Perform daily mechanical checks as required. 

Other

  • Maintain all sports fields and campground which includes grass cutting, garbage removal and game day preparations.  
  • Assist with weed and pest control as required.  
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of campground shower facilities, rest stop and ball shed.      
  • Assist with preparations for special events and rental activities.  
  • Assist with purchase supplies and equipment within the approved budget.
  • Consult and work with contractors as assigned.  
  • Maintain and ensure that safe work practices are observed for all tasks.
  • Participate in safety inspections and occupational health and safety meetings as required.  

Wage: $27.69 to $29.71/hour
