The Parks General - Seasonal Crew Lead – is under the direction of the Parks & Open Spaces Supervisor. This is a seasonal position of 30 weeks involving maintenance, operations, training and supervising seasonal staff of the Parks and Recreation Department.


Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance programs specific to the City’s green spaces, which includes mowing of grass, weed control, trimming, emptying of garbage containers, gopher control, general upkeep of green space assets and pathways, and the acceptable and safe operation of City equipment
  • Maintain systematic, complete, and accurate records and supporting documents
  • Ensure effective utilization and safety of personnel and equipment
  • Ensure work orders and requests for service are completed
  • Assist in preparing budget information and monitor expenditures and assist in developing a proper asset inventory and life cycle costing
  • Possess the physical ability and knowledge to supervise, direct and perform a variety of fully skilled and manual tasks independently such as operating all tractors, mowers, trimmers, sprayers, water truck, half ton trucks and all related equipment
  • Coach, train, evaluate and record disciplinary action for employees under their direction and ensure quality customer service to all guests, residents and clients
  • Drive/operate/inspect and ensure proper maintenance of various vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to mowers, bucket trucks, chipper, tractor/loader, backhoe, skid-steer, stump grinder, sprayer, fertilizers, chain saw, motorized pole saw and other associated equipment and hand tools
  • Lead a safety-focused culture
  • Perform other Parks related duties as assigned or required

The ideal candidate will have at a minimum:

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two (2) years’ experience in Parks maintenance including turf care, flowers, trees and landscaping
  • Two (2) years’ supervisory experience
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn new procedures related to the maintenance of green spaces
  • Familiarity with Windows based computer systems and ability to learn new software systems
  • Ability to physically and mentally complete duties while exposed to environmental factors
  • Ability to physically perform unassisted heavy lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to operate equipment and vehicles required
  • Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License, 3A an asset and a Driver’s Abstract

There will be additional certifications to obtain once hired.
Salary: $26.75 per hour
