Tips & Tricks from the 2019 Symposium Best Practices Contest

Straight from you and your colleagues in Recreation, here are 5 practical tricks of the trade:

Participants gather around to identify trees during the Parks Worker course at the 2019 Spring Symposium in Humboldt

  1. Measure your ice and use SPRA’s awesome record book. Proper depth maintenance increases safety and decreases money big time.
  2. We have applied a graffiti protectant coating to some of our high profile areas to help speed up the cleaning process and promote a park/city that is cleaner and more respectful.
  3. Cleaning the bottom of the mower off to remove fresh mulch from becoming moldy or drying into concrete. Also, blow out the rad on dry days.
  4. All our irrigation is on timers and comes on at night. So we can control the amount of water.
  5. In-ice logos can be used over and over again as long as they are cared for. Melt out ice over them with hot water to remove them without tears.

Remember, Best Practice begins with you!

Thanks to RC Strategies + PERC for sponsoring the contest.  We'll see you at next year's Spring Education and Training Symposium!
