Darin Faubert is an educator and community volunteer from the town of Wadena, Saskatchewan. A Board Member of Softball Saskatchewan, Darin’s passion for softball has made a huge impact in the lives of young men in Wadena and the surrounding area. On top of his involvement in youth softball, Darin has also played and coached Senior and Minor Hockey, created a Junior Golf program, and is the former President of the North East Saskatchewan Schools Athletics Association.
Youth softball was not a common activity in the Wadena area. Darin changed that by creating a program and engaging an interested group of motivated young men from Wadena and neighbouring communities. This led to him coaching these young men at the 2019 Western Canada Games in Swift Current. Also in 2019, Darin formed a partnership with a softball program in New Zealand. That partnership inspired a team from New Zealand to travel to Saskatchewan and play in several communities, and in exchange, the team from Wadena travelled to New Zealand and played games in their country.
“Darin is definitely involved in a lot of activities in and around the community,” said Jocelyn Holowaty, Community Recreation Coordinator for the Town of Wadena. “His willingness to give his time and energy is noticeable and appreciated by those that he has directly impacted and those that have benefited from the opportunities he has created in our community.”
