Let’s Celebrate June is Recreation & Parks Month!

As we mark the mid-point of June is Recreation & Parks Month (JRPM) let’s celebrate how we officially started! The 2017 JRPM Launch Event was Sunday, June 4th in the City of North Battleford. The community gathered in Rotary Plaza for an afternoon of family fun with a “Picnic on the Plaza.”

The event began with a friendly relay race.  North Battleford Leisure Services mascot, Leisure Lee, took on the local fire department mascot, Sparky, for a circuit of fun outdoor activities. “Picnic on the Plaza” included a variety of children’s games such as giant jenga, water balloon toss, giant checkers, a bouncy castle, face painting and more! A BBQ lunch was offered, along with a free water and sunscreen station to keep everyone safe and hydrated in the warm weather. Musical entertainment was provided by Kaleigh Hargreaves and Singing with Sylvia.

Guest speakers included MLA Randy Weekes, SPRA Board Member Coralie Bueckert and North Battleford City Councillor Kelli Hawtin, who all outlined the importance of parks and recreation in our communities.

Thank you so much to the City of North Battleford for hosting an excellent event and helping us kick off another successful June is Recreation & Parks Month!
