June is Recreation & Parks Month - Another Great Success in 2018

This year, SPRA celebrated June is Recreation & Parks Month with nearly 60 Ambassadors across the province.

Although June is over, the summer fun continues in communities across Saskatchewan.  We thought it would be nice to look back and reflect on how JRPM, and the summer programming with it, started in 2018.  Each year, we work with an ambassador to host a Launch Event for the month.  This year was no exception as another great launch event was held on June 3rd at Riverside Park in Swift Current. The 37th annual Picnic in the Park included many activities such as face painting, bouncy castles and live musical entertainment. This event was a great opportunity for families and community members to come together and enjoy the beautiful Riverside Park.

There was a wide array of activities that were enjoyed by people of many ages. There was live music entertainment on the main stage throughout the majority of the day to keep the crowd lively and engaged. Picnic in the Park was another great success with over 2000 people attending and enjoying the games, food and live entertainment. Honorable speakers that were involved included; Swift Current MLA-Everett Hindley, President of the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association-Coralie Bueckert, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Association of Recreation Professionals - Nicole Walchuk and Mayor of Swift Current - Denis Perrault.

This amazing event could have not happened without the City of Swift Current, Innovation Credit Union and the volunteers that donated their time to make this event such a success! From everyone at SPRA we would like to thank everyone for participating in JRPM and encourage everyone to “Live it everyday”.
