Training and Education The Facility Management program is a program of the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA). This program is dedicated to serving the needs of community facility management. It is intended to contribute to training operators and the efficient operation of facilities.
Certificates may be obtained in each of these of the following courses:
A) Pool Operator Course This course provides in-class and hands-on experience for those involved in swimming pool operations. The Pool Operators Course is composed of three modules. Participants will receive the SPRA Pool Operators Manuals as a general guide for practice. As a certified component of the Western Facility Operator Master Certification Program, participants will be provided an opportunity to test their knowledge and receive their Pool Operators Certificate.
Modules: - Pool Chemistry - Filtration and Mechanical - Management / Programming
Cost: $150.00 Members $200.00 Non-members
B) Arena Operator Level 1 Course This course is composed of four modules. As a certified component of the Western Facility Operator Master Certification Program, participants will be provided an opportunity to test their knowledge and receive their Arena Operators Level 1 Certificate.
Modules: - Ice Making and Maintenance - Air Quality Issues - Heating and Ventilation - Ice Resurfacers
Cost: $150.00 Members $200.00 Non-members
C) Arena Operator Level 2 Course This intensive course will provide the essential refrigeration theory to give participants an overview of modern industrial refrigeration systems. This course is composed of four modules. As a certified component of the Western Facility Operator Master Certification Program, participants will be provided an opportunity to test their knowledge and receive their Arena Operators Level 2 Certificate.
Modules: - Thermodynamics - Operation and Maintenance of Refrigeration Plants - Refrigeration Components, Equipment and Controls - Refrigerants and Brines
Cost: $300.00 Members $400.00 Non-members

Western Facility Operator Master Certificate The Western Facility Operator Master Certificate is a certificate program that certifies recreation facility operators and professionals who have met specific education and training requirements. The program encourages facility operators and professionals to develop and enhance their skills and abilities in areas that will benefit themselves, their employer, their career and the facilities that they operate. The certification will provide safe, efficient and sustainable recreation facilities across Western Canada.
The goal of the certification is to work towards achieving 5 designations:
1. Facility Operator General Designation - First Aid/CPR B - WHMIS - Custodial Maintenance
2. Facility Operator Arena Designation - Arena Operator Level 1 - Arena Operator Level 2
3. Facility Operator Parks Designation - Parks Level 1 - Parks Level 2
4. Facility Operator Pool Designation - Pool Operator
5. Facility Operator Supervisor Designation - Supervisors Skills - Risk Management
This certificate is intended to meet the need for trained operators and their efficient operation of facilities. Once a designation is completed the professional is able to take his or her training in any Western Province/Territory and have it recognized anywhere in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan or the North West Territories. Once completed all 5 designations the professional will be recognized as a Master Facility Operator. A fee of $50.00 for administration will be charged to each applicant to cover the printing of the certificates, mail out and designation completion stickers.
