Canada 150 from Wynyard, SK

This year, Canadians from coast to coast to coast are celebrating our nation’s 150th birthday.  July 1st, 2017 marks 150 years since confederation in Canada and communities nation-wide are recognizing this awesome achievement.  While the celebrations being hosted across Canada vary as much as the communities hosting them, we’ve decided to celebrate July 1st by showcasing the Canada 150 celebration in Wynyard, SK, a provincial Communities in Bloom participant.

Wynyard is celebrating with contests, signage and overall branding throughout the community.  The Canada 150 symbol has been painted all over Wynyard’s crosswalks.  This logo truly symbolizes our great nation, as the Canada 150 maple leaf is created out of diamonds representing all of the provinces and territories.  The 4 diamonds in the centre represent Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick as the original 4 provinces of confederation.  The 9 diamonds forming the points of the leaf represent the newer provinces and territories that now make up Canada, including our own Saskatchewan.Canada 150 Logo Crosswalk

In addition to the single color Canada 150 logos, Wynyard put on a community-wide contest for 13 Canada 150 logos painted in full color.  Residents were challenged to search out the 13 Full Color Canada 150 logos and be the first to report their locations to the town administration in order to win.  This initiative was very effective as it brought awareness of Canada 150 to the community and encouraged community interaction from all ages.

This contest wasn’t the only way that Wynyard decided to celebrate Canada 150.  Streetlights all along Bosworth Street are adorned with Canada 150 banners that compliment the patriotic sidewalks below.  Even the town’s marquee floral display shows Canada 150 pride as the logo has been outlined in bright white in a large flowerbed below the community’s electronic message sign.  Floral displays throughout the community have been planted to reflect the colours of the Canada 150 logo. Canada 150 Streetlight Banner
