Held every four years, the Western Canada Summer Games are a multisport competition for amateur athletes, founded to help spur them on to higher achievement in sport. Participants come from Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
The Games are not just a competition; they foster the development of young athletes and communities in Western Canada. Whether they're a competitor, coach, volunteer, spectator, or organizer, the memories for those involved will last a lifetime. The challenge of hosting these Games requires dedication, perseverance, cooperation and the support of our great province to successfully organize and execute the various sporting events, ceremonies and cultural elements that comprise the Games.
The 2019 WCSG officially launched their volunteer recruitment campaign Monday, January 21st, 2019 with a 2,000 Metre Race to “Get in the Game” and volunteer. The 2,000 Metre Race included 2,000 volunteers!
When we volunteer together, we make connections with others and make new friends. We become connected to our community and province.

Let's put this recruitment of 2,000 volunteers into perspective. Try to imagine the sheer magnitude of this event, and the people power required to support 1,700 athletes across 16 sports, 20 venues, 4 cultural evenings – all in a span of 10 days. Think of the food, transportation, venue operations…the list goes on! We need YOUR help!
There are several different areas where the people of Saskatchewan can volunteer their time. From the safety of athletes, coaches and managers to food preparation and delivery to sound technicians, Stage hands, ticket takers and scoreboard keepers…there is something for everyone, ages 13 and up!
What does it mean to volunteer? You are offering something that is not required or an obligation. You do not volunteer for the pursuit of a monetary prize or recognition. You volunteer because you spy a glimmer of hope and promise for the future. You believe that your time is worth it and that you are capable to doing something great. When we volunteer together, we make connections with others and make new friends. We become connected to our community and province.
So, “Get in the Game and Volunteer” today! Though we may not feel it now, summer is fast approaching and the Games will be here before we know it. Don’t you want to be a part of them?
