We are saddened by the loss of Donald ‘Don’ MacAulay, who passed away peacefully on November 7, 2022, in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Don’s vast contribution and dedication to the recreation industry in Saskatchewan will not be forgotten. His career as a public servant saw him excel in the roles of Recreation Consultant, Assistant Director of the Regional Service Branch at Saskatchewan Culture and Recreation, and, for 16 years, as the Director of the Parks Branch of Saskatchewan Environment.
As a volunteer for SPRA, Don served a one-year term as SPRA Board Member (1977) and was a member of the SPRA History Book Advisory Committee between 2009 and 2011. Don also offered his leadership and experiences to the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association, where he served as Board President from 1982 to 1983.
In 1988, SPRA was proud to award Don the SPRA Award of Merit for his leadership in the industry. In 2005, SPRA nominated Don for the Commemorative Medal for the Centennial of Saskatchewan, which was presented to Don by The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly on January 26, 2006. The nomination outlined that Don’s reputation for honesty, his commitment to excellence and his ability to address issues in a positive manner all culminated to move the parks and recreation movement forward in the province.
SPRA is forever thankful for Don’s vision and support of parks and recreation.
