News & Events

On October 27, the Government of Saskatchewan announced the establishment of a new crown corporation to handle lotteries and gaming in the province. Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS) is expected to launch on April 1, 2023.

The creation of LGS will not have any foreseen large impact on Sask Lotteries and beneficiaries will remain unchanged. Takeaways from this announcement include:

  • Lotteries in Saskatchewan will continue to be operated by Sask Lotteries and the Western Canada Lottery Corporation and overseen by LGS. Current oversight is provided by the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport.
  • There are no changes being made to the beneficiaries of lottery proceeds. So, the more than 12,000 sport, culture and recreation groups funded can continue to provide programs and experiences that enhance our province’s quality of life.

"This is an important step to ensure the success of the entire industry in our province well into the future," Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross said. "With these structural changes taking place, I am pleased that lotteries proceeds will continue to support sport, culture, recreation and community groups right across Saskatchewan."

SPRA, alongside our partners at Sask Sport and SaskCulture will continue to be actively engaged in this transition. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
