Prior to registration, participants will be required to read, understand and follow SPRA's COVID-19 Mitigation Measures and other COVID-19 protocols that may be in place during this training program.
This course has been updated for the 2020-21 season. This course provides a detailed account of ice installation and maintenance practices. The practical work of this course will focus on ice installation. Emphasis will be on the best practices for building ice, painting ice, installing logos, etc. Ice maintenance will be discussed more in the classroom portion of the course. All of the topics discussed are related to the successful and safe operation of an arena facility.
Topics covered along with class participation include:
- Principles of Ice Making – Ice Maintenance and Quality Control
- Air Quality
- Dasher Board Systems
- Basic Refrigeration
- Ice Resurfacer – Maintenance, Operation and Safety
COVID-19 PPE: Participants are required to provide their own facemasks, hand sanitizer, gloves and facial tissues.
Health & Safety: Proper steel toe footwear, ice cleats and clothing is required, as we will be on the ice surface for extended periods performing tasks related to ice installation/maintenance.
Maximum Size: 12 participants to maintain social distancing requirements.
Length of Training: This is a 2-day course. Course starts at approximately 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on consecutive days.
Mode of Training: The course is designed to provide a balance of classroom instruction and hands-on practice.
Course Materials: Registrants will receive an Arena Operators Level 1 binder of the topics covered in the course.
Certificate: A certificate of completion will be issued to the participant upon successful completion of the course.
