NFLA CANADA Positioning Statement
NFLA Canada's main focus is on the development and stewardship of national standards for fitness leader registration across Canada, and acting as an advocate for fitness leadership at the National level. Our involvement with ICREPs will further these goals, providing international recognition for our Canadian fitness professionals, and allowing for the sharing of best practices internationally.
You can visit the NFLA web site at http://fitnessnb.ca/nfla/.

It represents over 10,000 fitness professionals living and working in seven provinces and two territories across Canada. Your SPRA registration is recognized nationally through the NFLA and is transferable across the country to all NFLA partners.
Our members are:
Alberta/North West Territories – Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association
British Columbia/Yukon – British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association
Saskatchewan – Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association
Manitoba – Manitoba Fitness Council
Ontario – Ontario Fitness Council
New Brunswick – Fitness New Brunswick
Nova Scotia – Nova Scotia Fitness Association
Our role as a register
The NFLA is recognized by the International Confederation of Registers for Exercise Professionals
ICREPs members operate in 4 continents, over seven countries, and collectively register over 60,000 individual exercise professionals. ICREPs has also produced a global matrix that maps each ICREPs member’s registration levels against the others, which provides a clear pathway for exercise professionals considering moving countries.
Our connection to ICREPs furthers our goals by providing international portability and recognition for Canadian exercise professionals and by allowing us to share best practices and information with international partners.
What We Do
The NFLA develops, promotes and implements national standards for the accreditation, training and registration of exercise professionals in Canada. We:
- work collaboratively to develop and distribute resources for exercise professionals in Canada;
- are a national and international advocate for exercise professionals;
- identify and address issues of common concern.
The National Fitness Leadership Alliance recently updated the Performance Standards for each of the module areas. SPRA will continue to implement these standards through the modules that we offer and will be updating the modules over the next year to ensure that fitness delivery meets the highest standards in the industry.
