Enhanced Member Support Initiative - SPRA Field Consultants

The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association’s (SPRA’s) Enhanced Member Support Initiative has increased human resource support to the Recreation Sector through the hiring of SPRA Field Consultants. The role of the Field Consultants has been to assist in building capacity, raising the profile of recreation and parks in Saskatchewan, and providing advisory services and support, as needed, to municipalities, recreation organizations, parks organizations and the Districts for Sport, Culture and Recreation.

Field Consultant offices are located in Prince Albert, Swift Current, Rosetown/North Battleford, Weyburn, Humboldt and Melville/Yorkton.

“The intent of the initiative is to address many of the challenges facing the Saskatchewan recreation and parks delivery system, to further support the current delivery system, and to improve our system’s responsiveness to the changing needs of Saskatchewan communities,” said SPRA President, Darrell Lessmeister.

“Rivers West District is very excited to partner with SPRA on the Enhanced Member Support Initiative”, said Donna Johnston-Genest, Executive Director for the Rivers West District for Sport, Culture & Recreation.  “This initiative has enhanced the communication between SPRA, our member communities and the District, which will in turn increase the understanding and use of both SPRA and District programs and services by our members.”

Lyle Campbell, Executive Director for the Lakeland District for Sport, Culture and Recreation, also voiced his support for the field positions. “SPRA Field Consultant's support and work in cooperation with the Lakeland District staff, to coordinate and implement strategies that will help to increase the quality of life within Lakeland District communities,” said Campbell. “As an advocate for sport, culture and recreation, we certainly welcome any initiative that will help to improve and enhance the profile of this sector.”

Dan Poulin, Director of Parks and Recreation - Town of Nipawin, also sees the Consultants as a step in the right direction. “SPRA's addition of Field Consultants, is a tremendous benefit to rural Saskatchewan and the volunteers and recreation professionals in our communities,” said Poulin.

As the leader of a parks and recreation network that builds healthy active communities, SPRA is very excited to have the opportunity to further support its members through enhanced services, and to assist in raising the profile of recreation and parks in Saskatchewan!
